This idea started after a friend David did 7 days of fasting. We had discussed metabolic health and weight loss many times before, as I was curious but still lacked understanding. This was my first time having a conversation with someone who has done a fast, a long fast too, and it made me curious.
After the chat with him, I went on YouTube and watched some of the videos related to fasting and health which he recommended. This gave me the motivation to start the process. The first 24 hours were fine, but the following 2 days were tough. I experienced headaches, weakness, fatigue and sweating, but eventually I started to feel better towards the end.
My weight before the fast was 63 kg, which was way over the required normal BMI for my age (50) and height (153 cm). I went on the scale every day and my weight gradually decreased until I got to 55 kg on the 7th day.
Completing the 7 days of fasting is a huge achievement for me because it proved that I had more willpower and control over my body than I thought. Beyond the initial weight loss, I noticed my digestion improved significantly. I no longer felt bloated after meals. Apart from fasting, I had to adjust my diet. I tried to cut down on sugar and carbs most of the time except on cheat days.
Overall, fasting has helped me overcome some changes I have noticed due to aging. Having that initial support from David was crucial. It made me feel confident to try it myself.
